Rolling Oaks Golf Course Renovation
Update: October 24th, 2010
The renovation of the Rolling Oaks Golf Course nears completion and these latest updates are provided by Stan Cooke, Director of Golf, and Jimbo Rawlings, Director of Golf Course Maintenance, at World Woods Golf Club.
Stan Cooke stated "I'm enthusiastically overwhelmed by the success of the renovation project as a result of the new Tift Eagle greens and the lengthening of the Rolling Oaks (and Pine Barrens) golf courses by installing ten new teeing grounds (on each course). I believe the return to the original expansive size of the Rolling Oaks greens offers many new hole locations, challenging yet playable greens contours and smooth and quick putting surfaces that will provide incredible memories for our customers to enjoy for years to come". Cooke added that World Woods has already over seeded the Rolling Oaks tees, fairways, and fringes and mentioned the new greens will not be over seeded this year in order to allow the Tift Eagle grass to establish itself in year one. Cooke complimented Jimbo Rawlings, Director of Golf Course Maintenance, Ramsey Prescott, Rolling Oaks Head Golf Course Superintendent, and their respective staff members for doing an incredible job with the renovation project; including repairs to the cement golf cart paths, refurbishing the golf course rest areas, tree trimming, removal and strategic plantings on hole #18 and much more. Cooke noted that tee times on Rolling Oaks are already filling quickly from November 1st and beyond due to the grand re-opening of the golf course.
Jimbo Rawlings added "The much anticipated renovation of the Rolling Oaks greens has finally happened. World Woods has taken advantage of a relatively calm summer storm season and very consistent summer weather to finish the renovation process and the new greens are almost ready for the re-opening of the Rolling Oaks course on November 1st, 2010. Many thanks are due to Stefan Masiak (formerly of the Fazio Group) and Medalist Golf for their invaluable assistance in completing this project. Now the Rolling Oaks course will have greens that can compete with her sister course, Pine Barrens, at World Woods. Those guests playing 36 holes will have excellent putting conditions on both championship courses, consistently, regardless of when they choose to visit our "one of a kind" destination!
World Woods Golf Club has recently announced the renovation of its Rolling Oaks golf course, the #6 rated golf course in the State of Florida. According to Stan Cooke, World Woods Vice President and Director of Golf, the renovation project will force World Woods to close the Rolling Oaks course for the period June 1 thru October 31, 2010 while the renovation project occurs. Medalist Golf has been contracted to recreate the new putting surfaces using the highly touted Tift Eagle grass. According to Cooke, World Woods desires to return the Rolling Oaks putting surfaces to their original size (approximately 20% larger than the current greens size) as well as improve the “day to day” consistency and playability of the course. Cooke added that this project, along with 18 new teeing grounds that recently lengthened the Rolling Oaks and Pine Barrens golf courses, will enable both courses to play as they did in the early 90’s when World Woods opened. World Woods overall goal is to provide its clientele with the finest accessible 36-hole stand alone golf and practice facility located in the Southeastern U.S.
During the closure of the Rolling Oaks golf course, World Woods patrons will continue to have access to the Pine Barrens golf course as well as the privilege of playing nearby Southern Woods Golf Club, an 18 hole private facility designed by 3 time U.S. Open Champion Hale Irwin. Southern Woods, a “sister course” to World Woods, is welcoming play after 10:00am Tuesday’s thru Sunday’s and all day on Monday’s while the Rolling Oaks course is closed. World Woods patrons are able to make tee times at Southern Woods by contacting the World Woods golf shop at 352-796-5500. Southern Woods golf course fees are $30 + tax per person ($31.80 per person includes greens fees cart fee and tax for 18 holes of golf). After November 15, 2010, access to Southern Woods Golf Club will be available to guests of members of the Club.
During the same timeframe, Southern Woods Golf Club will be making its restaurant available for World Woods patrons to enjoy food and beverage in its restaurant. Payment for food and beverages may be made via cash or credit card.
